Sexual assault is any behaviour of a sexual nature, which is unwelcome and makes the recipient feel afraid or intimidated. This includes verbal abuse, exhibitionism, fondling, rape and incest.
Wimmera Centre Against Sexual Assault provides free and confidential counselling to sexual assault victims and survivors, whether the assault occurred recently or in the past. Support is also available to family members and significant others. These services are offered to children, and adults, females and males.
Contact with many people may be via telephone, face-to-face or in a group. The needs and wishes of the victims/surviviors are the foremost concern and support will be given in line with these needs and wishes.
Statewide After hours: Contact the Rural Victorian After-hours Telephone Counselling Service, Ph: 1800 806 292. This service provides telephone counselling, and referral and operates 5.30 pm - 9.00 am, Monday - Friday and 24 hours on weekends and public holidays or Wimmera Health Care Group, 03 5381 9111.
