The Orthopaedic department at RPA is part of Sydney Local Health service and the University of Sydney.
Orthopaedics is a branch of medicine that is concerned with injuries, conditions and diseases of the musculoskeletal (muscle/ bone) system.
The orthopaedic team includes doctors, nurses, allied health professionals. Allied health professionals include physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietician, social worker and speech therapists.
Most importantly when you are admitted to the orthopaedic ward you and your family/ carer become part of this team working towards your recovery and discharge plan.
We provide a comprehensive range of services on an inpatient, ambulatory and outpatient basis. The orthopaedic department provides services for trauma and elective procedures. Services are enhanced by a close working relationship with other specialties such as rheumatology, metabolic bone disorders, geriatrics and nuclear medicine.
The department provides a service to the general community and at tertiary level with special expertise in the reconstruction and replacement of major joints. The department is active in a range of clinical research activity closely integrated with clinical practise and teaching activities.
