Mount Alexander shire Council provides a Living at Home assessment to persons in their own home. The person is actively involved in the assessment process , working with the assessment officer to develop a care plan that identifies their needs and abilities and outlines goals for the person to work towards to remain active and independent at home . The process also supports carers and in their caring role and can involve family and significant others. Consideration is made to people with special needs – financially disadvantaged ,CALD ( culturally and linguistic diverse), people of an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background, people with dementia and people who are GLBTI as part of the assessment process.
Services are provided to achieve the persons goals and referrals are made for other support such as ACAS , Occupational Therapy, District Nursing , Podiatry , Social Support and other allied health. Services are provided with other agencies using a collaborative and coordinated team approach. The assessment service monitors individuals progress and will review the person as regularly or as needs change.

Packages provide Services and Case Management to assist people with complex care needs to remain living in their own home. They are tailored for each individual and based on their particular needs. Care (case) Management – to help plan and co-ordinate the services that you receive. It provides individualised service management, support advocacy, negotiation and access to other supports as necessary, and as determined in conjunction with you and your carer.
To be eligible to receive a Care Package the person's needs must first have been assessed by and Aged Care Assessment Team to determine whether a Care Package is suitable. This assessment is free and can be arranged by the individual, a family member or doctor.
Fees are flexible and are agreed on commencement of a package.
This is generally a waiting list for this program.

Aims
To maintain independence at home for veterans & war widows/widowers with low level care needs. To ensure that an optimal level of functioning is maintained; and to ensure personal care, domestic assistance, respite and home garden maintenance interventions will promote health & independence rather than dependency
Veterans' Home Care is a department of Veterans' Affairs' program that helps veterans and war widows/widowers with low care needs to remain in their own homes for longer. Personal Care for Veterans includes assistance with self-care tasks that a person is unable to do for themselves because of illness, disability or availability i.e. dressing/showering, feeding, toileting, fitting of aids/appliances such as splints & stockings. Usually the frequency of the service will be 2-3 visits per week and a maximum of 3 hours per fortnight.

Assessment recommendations for service delivery are forward to the regional office in Mildura to confirm service plan. Grandfather clause for HACC clients transferring to VHC no longer applies.

Youth Services
The Youth Development Officer works in partnership with young people aged 12 to 25 to increase opportunities for them to engage in community decision making, community planning, programming and service delivery. Below are examples of the programs that the Youth Services department provides.
FReeZA Program
Music and cultural events run by young people for young people. The Mount Alexander Shire FReeZA Committee, MASK Productions, consists of 12 young people who meet weekly to plan and implement youth events in the Shire.
Castlemaine Skate Park Group
The Castlemaine skate park group meets fortnightly to discuss the development and management of the Castlemaine skate park and to organise events at the park that bring young people and the broader community together.
Respect Yourself
Is a life skills program co hosted by local health services at the Castlemaine Secondary College with year 10 students. The activity based program looks at the internet as a public forum, good communication and healthy relationships.
Mount Alexander Shire Youth Celebration and Awards
During National Youth Week Mount Alexander Shire Council hosts the Youth Celebration and Awards night, recognizing young people aged 12-25 years in sport, community involvement, the arts and business.

Recreation Department
The Recreation Department of Council consists of two staff. One full time Recreation Officer and one Recreation Officer with an 'Aquatics Focus'.
The aims of this department include:
* supporting Committees of Management;
* obtaining funding to improve infrastructure of the Recreation Facilities and programs offered within these facilities;
* assisting in some aspects of running the facilities;
* event management and / or approvals;
* coordinating special events;
* obtaining information regarding innovations in the recreation field;

Social Support
The social support service assist people in maintaining and creating social networks. The social support program offers a variety of activities either on an individual basis or in a group setting. The social support program is designed to assist those residing at home or in the community - not residential care facilities. Below are examples of the programs provided by Social Support:
Magazine delivery service
A delivery service for people who have a reduced capacity or who no longer are physically able to access reading materials for themselves. This service is delivered by volunteers.
Tele-monitoring services
A regular Telephone Contact Service provided by volunteers to ensure social connectedness and to monitor client security and well being
Diners Club
A group who meets once a month at cafes or hotels. Care is taken to select a variety of venues who are able to provide good quality food at reasonable prices.
Chewton Dinner Day
A group who meet monthly at the Chewton Community Centre, and enjoy a delicious 2 course home style meal prepared volunteers. Entertainment, guest speakers and games are arranged to add interest to the day – as well as enjoying the company of the other guests.
Day Trippers with Brian
Monthly outings arranged to places of interest. Volunteers / staff are on hand to assist where ever possible.
Occassional Services
Shopping Services
Trips to Bendigo shopping centers are available on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month. Clients must be able to shop independently, volunteers do accompany the group to assist where ever possible. The group always meet and have lunch as a group.
Movies
Morning coffee, and a light 'basket' lunch is included in the price, at the popular Theatre Royal in Castlemaine.
Picnic Day
Enjoy a day out and about taking in some fresh air and a small amount of exercise, in and around the Shire. BYO cut lunch helps with keeping costs to a minimum, and when weather permits a BBQ may be arranged.
Men's Day Out
A monthly activity where a group of gentleman go out and about on an organised activity
Blokes Basement
A monthly activity where men can enjoy the facilities of the 'Basement' which is a designated room equipped with a fridge, games, pool table etc, this is a place where men can enjoy the company of other menAll of these services are provided by volunteers

Our service offers advice, support, information and resources in a caring environment on a range of issues including;

• Screening tests for vision
• First time parent groups
• Referral to other agencies
Our Enhanced Home Visiting Service provides support for families with additional needs.
We also provide all immunisations required by 0-6 year old children (by appointment) according to the Standard Immunisation Schedule. Click the link at the bottom of the page to find out the recommended vaccinations at each age.
