The male patient, aged 70 was diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica in 2000 and had been taking various doses of oral steroids for two years. A swollen hand prompted a visit to a rheumatologist in December 2003, where rheumatoid arthritis was diagnosed. He was given a steroid injection at the time, and an additional injection since.
