The Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Course is a clinically-proven treatment that helps adults aged 18 years and over to manage psychological and emotional symptoms resulting from experiencing a traumatic event.

The effects of PTSD can mean that life feels overwhelming and lonely at times. But you are not alone, and there is support available.

The PTSD Course is designed to help you break unhelpful habits and learn practical psychological skills to help you manage your symptoms, so you can get back to living a full and enjoyable life.

The PTSD Course consists of five lessons over an eight-week period. It is designed to provide the information and skills that you would normally receive from a mental health professional. You can choose to receive weekly therapist support during the course, or you can choose to contact us when you need to.

The course aims to teach the following psychological skills:

  • How to recognise the cycle of symptoms involved in PTSD
  • How to recognise and challenge unhelpful thoughts and beliefs, which may have worsened because of the trauma
  • How to recognise and manage physical symptoms of PTSD
  • How to reduce symptoms like flashbacks, nightmares and feelings of panic
  • How to safely start doing things you have been avoiding
  • How to stay well once the course has finished

The PTSD Course is recommended for people who:

  • are 18 years of age or older
  • are Australian residents
  • are experiencing mild to moderate PTSD
  • have symptoms of PTSD as well as symptoms of anxiety and depression
  • have at least four hours a week to spend working on the course and practicing the skills.
