Synapse - Australia’s Brain Injury Organisation is a not-for-profit organisation that provides a range of support services for people who have been impacted by brain injury and disability, and promotes quality of life, self-determination and choice through information, specialist support and targeted research activities.

Brain injury refers to any type of brain disorder or injury which is acquired rather than developmental. The primary causes of brain injury includes stroke/aneurism; degenerative diseases such as dementia, alzheimer’s, parkinson’s, and multiple sclerosis; trauma; hypoxic/anoxic injuries (lack of oxygen to the brain); infections and diseases such as meningitis, encephalitis, brain tumours or brain cancer; fetal alcohol spectrum disorder; or alcohol and/or drug misuse.

Vison and mission

Synapse seeks to focus both government and public support to realise funding for specialist brain injury services.

Synapse’s mission is to ensure the rights of people impacted by brain injury, by connecting knowledge, policy, services and systems.
