Know Pathology Know Healthcare

Know Pathology Know Healthcare is a not-for-profit initiative to increase understanding and recognition of the vital role that pathology services play in healthcare. The website is a key output of Pathology Awareness Australia Limited (PAA) a not-for-profit group representing approximately 95% of the Australian pathology landscape.

Australians have access to one of the highest quality pathology services in the world. Countless medical conditions are prevented, diagnosed and managed using pathology. An estimated 70% of medical decisions rely on pathology results, and 100% of cancers are diagnosed by pathology tests.

PAA is not a service provider and the Know Pathology Know Healthcare website does not contain results. All queries about personal tests should be directed to your treating medical doctor or your pathology provider.

Vision and mission

The purpose of the Know Pathology Know Healthcare website is to help Australians to improve their own health literacy and to inform them about what pathology is and the important role it plays in their healthcare.

How Know pathology Know Healthcare can help

Know Pathology Know Healthcare explains the value of pathology through personal stories of how test results can save lives or give someone a second chance. Content on the site also highlight changes in testing, new breakthroughs and technological advances. There are also explainer articles which break down how tests are done and what is involved in each of the roles undertaken by pathology staff such as pathologists, medical scientists, pathology collectors and couriers.
