Your body image is how you think and feel about your body. This may or may not be related to how you appear to others. A healthy body image is associated with good health and wellbeing in general.
A distorted body image – usually thinking you are bigger or fatter than you really are – is fairly common, more so in women than in men. People with severely distorted body images can develop conditions like anorexia and bulimia.
The media influence on body image is strong – it is easy to forget that being as thin and beautiful as many of the people in advertising and on television is unrealistic.
