The 60 and Better Program supports older people to develop and manage healthy ageing programs in their own communities using community development principles and practices. The program has a number of goals focused on increasing older people's awareness of healthy lifestyle options, decreasing social isolation and improving linkages and information exchange with other health services.

The program offers participants a mix of physical, social and intellectual activities that support people to make connections with others and to develop interests. Activities include exercise programs, health talks, craft activities, theatre groups, card games and opportunities to explore information technology.

Grow Medical is a clinic for unsettled babies and their parents. A multidisciplinary team consisting of GPs, lactation consultants, parent-infant health practitioners and occupational therapists are available to assess babies under the age of 4 months. Both infant and maternal health are assessed, as well as feeding, sleep and settling issues.

The Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit is a specialist area in the Mater Mothers' Hospital that deals specifically with problems in early pregnancy (less than 20 weeks gestation). The most common problems are vaginal bleeding or pain. 

This is NOT an emergency service and we can only see women who are clinically stable. Women with excessive bleeding (soaking a pad every 30 - 60 mins) or pain not relieved by panadol (particularly on one side more than the other), should be directed to the Mater Adult Emergency Department.

The EPAU do not see women with excessive vomiting in pregnancy. These ladies should be directed to the Mater Adult Emergency Department. 

Access to the clinic is by appointment only. 

When the woman first arrives, she is met by an admin officer who checks her personal details. The Clinic Coordinator then meets with the lady and assesses her situation, providing education and support as needed. If required, an ultrasound is then organised and done immediately after the nurses assessment. 

After the scan, the lady again meets with the clinic nurse to discuss the results and implications. In the unfortunate diagnosis of a failed pregnancy, the nurse will discuss with the woman the diagnosis and her options for managment of same. Once the lady has decided on how to manage the pregnancy loss, she meets with the doctor if a consent is required. 

Ladies who have had a scan privately which shows a pregnancy loss, are also welcome to attend the clinic to discuss managment options. 

The Clinic nurse also discusses options for counselling with the lady in the event of a pregnancy loss. 

When the pregnancy is ongoing, the clinic nurse discusses options for Antenatal care with the woman.

Women of NESB are also welcome to come to EPAU, however we do need to be informed if an interpreter is required and given 24hrs notice to organise same.

The Sexual Health and HIV Service is a confidential appointment-based clinical service providing testing and treatment for sexually transmissible infections (STIs).

The service also provides HIV post exposure prophylaxis (PEP)1, management and care of HIV and has an onsite specialist pharmacy. 

A referral from your General Practitioner (GP) may be required but is not essential for most services.
