Generally a minimum of 24 hours notice is preferred to allow for planning, but contact should still be made if you must make a trip at short notice. A limited volunteer transport service is available. The service is aimed primarily at people on low incomes who: need to get to a medical or health related appointment in another town; are unable to drive themselves; do not have a family member or friend who can drive them; cannot access public transport; do not have a Veterans Affairs card. Volunteer drivers are screened and registered with West Wimmera Health Service. Using a Health Service vehicle or their own car, they will pick you up from home, drive you to your appointment, wait and drive you home. The driver will assist you into the waiting room but for reasons of privacy will not attend the consultation with you. The service can also be used for one-way trips, e.g. if you are being admitted or discharged from hospital, however the round trip fee still applies. Fee structure: 0 - 60km $5, 61 - 110kms $10, 111 - 200km $20, 201 - 600km $30, 600km plus $50. These rates apply to people with pension or health care cards. People who receive higher incomes may be asked to pay a surcharge. Fees may also be waived at the discretion of the Manager. Fees are payable at the time of the trip, or later only by arrangement.
