The National Perinatal Depression Initiative aims to improve prevention and early detection of perinatal depression and provide better support and treatment for expectant and new mothers experiencing depression or anxiety. This is acheived across maternal, adult, child and mental health services. For more information please contact the Principal Project Officer, National Perinatal Depression Initiative, SA Health, Mental Health Unit.: EntryProcedures Routine perinatal mental health screening and referral will take place predominantly in primary care by various health care professionals including midwives, general practitioners, community child and family health nurses, Aboriginal maternal infant care workers and obstetricians.: WaitingListDetails Support will be offered to women at risk of or experiencing perinatal depression or anxiety including relevant information and self help strategies, individual counselling, and contact with support groups.
