IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR GPS
Western Health offers a comprehensive outpatient service to referring general practitioners and people of the west.
—We recommend that GPs use the Western Health GP Outpatient Referral Form (page 101) for ease of referral. This letter can also be incorporated into your clinical management software
—On receipt of your referral, the registrar or consultant will triage your
request for an appointment. The registrar or consultant will use the information you provide to assess your referral for urgency and appropriate clinic, therefore supplying relevant and contextual information is critical in ensuring that the patient is triaged to the most appropriate clinic in the most appropriate time frame.
—When the appointment is arranged for your patient, you will receive a notification by facsimile of the appointment details. Your patient will receive a separate letter confirming the appointment details. In general, you will be notified of the appointment details within two weeks.
—Once your patient is seen in an outpatient clinic, the consultant or registrar will write a progress letter to you, which you should receive approximately within one week of the appointment.
—Interpreting services are provided free of charge to public outpatients within the hospital. Please request an interpreter for the language required when the
appointment is made.
