A 45-49 health Check can help identify risks before they develop into illness. Early intervention can help prevent the development of chronic diseases or reduce their severity.
If you have any family members or friends who would benefit from the health check, talk to them and encourage them to visit the doctor.
As we get older many of us become more vulnerable to illness. In order to address this the Australian Government has introduced a new health check for people aged 45-49 years who may be at risk of developing a health complaint such as diabetes or heart problems.
The aim of the 45-49 year health check is to help find, prevent, or lessen the effect of disease. The health check provides an opportunity to look at your lifestyle, medical and family history to find out if you are 'at risk' and look at actions that you and your doctor can take to reduce those risks.
What does the health check involve?
The 45-49 health check involves:
*updating your medical history and looking at your health issues
* Giving you personalised advice on how to reduce your risk of illness by making some healthy changes
* Tests where required (eg blood pressure, cholesterol etc)
* Follow up of any problems identified.
