Meals on Wheels is a program that provides quality, nutritious meals to people assessed as eligible for the service. The meals are cooked locally and then delivered to clients throughout Sunraysia and the Mallee Track by volunteers.
The program is run by a number of agencies — Mildura Meals on Wheels, Sunraysia Community Health Services, and Mallee Track Health & Community Service. These agencies have come together in partnership with Mildura Rural City Council to provide a more effective service to the community.
At present, Sunraysia Community Health Services, Mildura Meals on Wheels and Mallee Track Health & Community Service provide Meals on Wheels services - and will continue to do so. From November 2008 all Meals on Wheels assessments will be conducted through Mildura Rural City Council's Aged & Disability Services. If you know of someone who is in need of Meals on Wheels, a referral should be made to Aged & Disability Services at council.
Referrals can be made by anyone e.g. self, friend, relative, doctor etc.
Mildura Rural City Council Aged & Disability Services Assessment Officer will carry out a Living at Home assessment to determine your eligibility for this service. At the same time they may also assess your needs for services such as homecare, respite or property maintenance. This assessment takes place in the person's home.
Please contact MRCC if you have any questions about the assessment process.
