Respite for the carer so they can take a break from their caring role and continue to participate in community life, while having the confidence that the person they care for (the client) is supported by trained staff. Working together with the carer and client, respite is designed so that it best meets both the carer's needs and the needs of the client, with a focus on activities that are designed around the client's interests and abilities, and/or assisting with carer responsibilities such as personal care and household tasks. Respite can be provided:
• in the carer's or the client's home during the day and/or overnight
• through supporting the client with one-on-one structured activities in the community, to develop, maintain or support independent living, social interaction and participation in new experiences, or in activities they may have enjoyed in the past.
Staff are trained in supporting older people and people living with dementia.
