Sydney Local Health District offers flexible in-home respite to people living with dementia and their carers, in the Inner West of Sydney. The person may be unsuitable for mainstream respite (day centre) for the following reasons: frailty, continence issues, language / cultural factors or behavior concerns.
People eligible for Dementia Support Service are the frail, older person who:
•Is aged 65 years and over (or 50 years and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples)
•Has difficulty performing activities of daily living without help due to functional limitations
•Lives in the community
•Referred & screened as eligible by MyAgedCare
•Has a diagnosis of dementia
•Unable to attend center based respite due to reasons such as frailty i.e. regular attendance is too physically demanding; their toileting needs cannot be supported effectively; client behaviors of concern which are unable to be accommodated in a group setting
