Meeting patients' needs involves evaluation, consultation to develop a treatment programme, treatment to maximise the patient's skills for living and overall ability to participate in their everyday tasks and life roles. The occupational therapist also assists the person to return home from hospital by arranging community supports and resources required. External doctor referrals may be received for patients requiring specialised OT services unavailable in the community.
