Additional Information:
Varicose veins are abnormal or defective veins which are not functioning like a healthy vein. These veins appear as bulges above the skin surface usually blue or green in colour. Varicose Veins range in thickness from two to over ten millimetres. They are sometimes surrounded by thin spider veins.
Varicose and spider veins can appear anywhere, but most often appear on the legs and in the pelvic area. Most varicose veins develop near the surface of the skin. Deeper varicose veins can't be seen but might cause the skin above them to swell, or become darker or hard.
Symptoms may include:
- Swollen, twisted clusters of purple/blue veins;
- Swollen legs, 'heavy' legs, 'restless' legs or muscle cramps at night;
- Swelling in feet and ankles;
- Soreness, burning or aching in the legs, soreness behind the knee;
- Itching or inflammation around the vein;
- Dry, thinned skin or brown discoloration of the skin;
- Ulcers or open sores and;
- Symptoms may be worse after you stand or sit for long periods of time
Varicose veins can worsen without treatment. Our five methods of treatment for varicose veins and/or spider veins are:
1. Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA)
2. Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy (UGS)
3. Microsclerotherapy
4. Surgical Stripping
5. Compression Therapy
