The Aboriginal Maternal and Infant Health Service (AMIHS) aims to improve the health of Aboriginal women during pregnancy and decrease perinatal morbidity and mortality for Aboriginal babies. Midwives and Aboriginal Health Workers work together to provide a culturally sensitive, women centred service. Antenatal and Post Natal care is provided as early as possible after conception, up to 8 weeks post-delivery. The care is provided in the community and is linked to mainstream maternity services. This service provides regular ante and post natal health checks and support , booking into maternity hospitals, smoking cessation programs, information on infant feeding and nutrition, and referral and support to access other services as required . Further information can be obtained on http://www.kidsfamilies.health.nsw.gov.au/current-work/programs/aboriginal-programs/aboriginal-maternal-and-infant-health-service/ or by contacting our service.
