Queensland Narrating Service reads printed materials onto audio cassette or CD for people who cannot read independently, or have trouble doing so. It is a community-based non-profit organisation. Although a small fee is charged for some services, many services are available free.
QNS produces a wide range of unabridged recreational reading material, which is available or can be requested through public libraries. In addition, we provide a service obtaining and producing, in audio, a wide range of printed information. This includes Governnment Department documents and brochures, vocational material and educational texts, information about Service Providers/Community Groups/Support Groups, Minutes of Meetings, Reports, Newsletters, Newspaper excerpts, manuals, etc.
If the information is available in print, in most cases, it is possible to produce it in audio format if it is required. If necessary, we can advocate on consumers behalf to obtain an official document in audio format.
QNS also offers a limited service to a small number of aged care facilities reading to small groups of residents who were once active book readers.
A book-club for VIPs and print-disabled people has been established and meets in Brisbane twice a year.
