A specialist court program for people with a mental impairment who are facing minor charges within the Magistrates Court. Service is provided at the following Magistrates Courts- Berri, Christies Beach, Elizabeth, Holden Hill, Mount Gambier, Port Adelaide, Port Augusta and Whyalla. See website links for further information available: EntryProcedures Referral to the Program can be made by the individuals themselves or by an interested third party such as a police officer, solicitor, case manager, guardian, Magistrate, Police Prosecutor, service provider or any other party with a genuine interest their welfare. To be accepted onto the Program an individual must have a mental impairment and have been charged with a summary or minor indictable offence. There needs to be a causal link between the impairment and the offendce: WaitingListDetails Eligible individuals are adults who have been charged with certain minor or summary offences to be heard in the Magistrates Court of South Australia, and who have impaired intellectual or mental functioning arising from mental illness, intellectual disability, a personality disorder, acquired brain injury, or a neurological disorder including dementia.
